Great Quotes

“If you believe that taking care of your mental health is important, then seeing a therapist can be one of the most life-changing things you can do. There can also be space for laughter and creativity within the therapy room too.”

-George Carlin

"The art of healing comes from nature, not from the physician. Therefore, the physician must start from nature, with an open mind."

Insurance Questions

For all other insurances, Rider Counseling is an out-of-network practice at this time. You will pay the fee for session on the day your session is held and we will provide you with a document called a superbill  that you can submit to your insurance company. Your counseling services may qualify for patient reimbursement under many insurance plans. Check with your insurance if you have questions, as each insurance has their own specific rules about this. Before scheduling your first session with us, we advise that you call the number on the back of your insurance card to inquire about your provider’s policy on coverage for counseling sessions.

You may want to ask:

Do I have a deductible or copay to meet for any out-of-network services that would be beyond my standard deductible and copay?

Do I need a pre-authorization for counseling services that are considered out of network?

Is there a session limit?

You may also want to consider:

Do I want these services to be known to my insurance company, including any potential diagnoses?

Do I want the insurance company to have a hand in treatment planning and treatment methods used ?
(While insurance companies cannot practice counseling services, they dictate which methods and conversations will be covered and what will not. Some insurance companies do not make available their approval criteria, citing that the information is proprietary).

Payments arrangements:

You have the convenience of paying with credit or debit cards, as well as with your HSA/FSA card.

You will complete a card authorization as part of your new client forms, then provide the full card number with the encrypted and HIPAA compliant platform. Due to past experiences, your card will stay on file and it will be charged for future sessions according to the policy statement. You can remove that information at your discretion, but a payment method must be on file. Rider Counseling will not have access to credit card information used with the payment system so that you know that while your payment method is on file it is not accessed by staff other than billing for services, no shows, and late notice cancellations per the policy. Any charges will have an attached invoice for your review.

What is a Superbill?

A superbill is a document used in medical billing that contains a detailed list of the services provided to a patient during a visit to a healthcare provider. It is essentially an itemized bill that patients can submit to their insurance company for reimbursement.

The superbill typically includes information such as the patient's name, date of service, diagnosis codes, procedure codes, and the fees associated with each service. It may also include the provider's name, contact information, and tax identification number.

Superbills are often used in situations where a patient is not covered by insurance, or when a provider does not or cannot participate in a patient's insurance plan. By providing patients with a superbill, they can seek reimbursement from their insurance company or use it to claim medical expenses on their tax return.

Essentially, the client pays for services, this "receipt" is provided by the therapist, and insurance can reimburse if they are willing to do so. This is often effective for clients in getting their services covered.
